Wetland Bird Photography Hide Tour
Experience the peaceful beauty of Dam of Rivers at sunrise, where soft light and calm waters create ideal conditions for wildlife photography. From a discreet hide setup, you'll capture herons, egrets, ducks and other wetland species in natural behaviour. During migration seasons, the wetland occasionally welcomes impressive visitors such as the Osprey — a rare highlight for any photographer.

🦅 Osprey – A Photographers' Moment of Magic
The Osprey is one of the most thrilling birds a photographer can encounter. Its flight is elegant and deliberate, with long wings that catch the light beautifully as it circles above the water. When it begins to hover, the anticipation builds — this is the moment every photographer waits for.
With a sudden dive, the bird cuts through the air and hits the water with explosive force, rising again with droplets scattering around its powerful wings. Whether soaring in golden light, pausing briefly on a perch, or showing its intense yellow gaze, the Osprey offers rare, dramatic frames that stay with you forever.
In Crete’s wetlands, these sightings are occasional but unforgettable — the kind of moments that turn a simple outing into a story worth capturing.

The kingfishers
The Common Kingfisher is one of Europe’s most iconic wetland birds, instantly recognisable by its bright blue and orange plumage. Despite its vivid colours, the kingfisher is surprisingly small and often difficult to spot unless it flashes across the water like a turquoise streak.
This species prefers clean, calm freshwater habitats

The Great Cormoran
Cormorants burst into flight with powerful strokes, running across the water as they gain speed for take-off. Their dark wings catching the early light, the spray of droplets behind them, and the synchronized movement of the flock create one of the most dynamic scenes a photographer can capture at the wetland.
